The Maharishi Effect: All about coherence

The Maharishi Effect: All about coherence

"A small group in coherence can do what thousands in chaos cannot."

There are moments in history when silence becomes more powerful than noise.

In 1974, something quietly radical began. A group of meditators gathered; not to protest, not to campaign, not to speak, but to sit in stillness with a shared intention of Peace. What followed wasn’t a temporary sense of calm or a personal transformation. What followed was measurable, repeatable change on a collective scale.

What Is the Maharishi Effect?

The Maharishi Effect refers to the observed phenomenon that when a small percentage of a population practices Transcendental Meditation (TM) and the advanced TM-Sidhi program together, societal indicators like crime, violence, and even international conflict measurably decrease. It’s no theory; it’s a pattern from dozens of studies, spanning across cities, nations,  and the globe.

In scientific terms the Key is to reach the critical threshold: The square root of 1% of a population. For example; for a million-person city, approximately 100 meditators suffice. They enlive pure consciousness, radiating coherence via a “field effect”; like lasers amplifying over scattered light. Incoherent chaos yields to order, stabilizing collective consciousness.

The Early Breakthroughs

In the early 1980s, researchers found that in cities where this threshold was met, there were dramatic reductions in crime rates. One study published in “The Journal of Mind and Behavior” reported up to a 24% drop in violent crime when the threshold of meditators was reached.

Skeptics questioned the findings. So the experiments were scaled. In 1983, a group of 7,000 advanced meditators gathered in Iowa. Over the course of three weeks, global conflict; including warfare and terrorism decreased significantly. The results were so improbable by chance that the probability of random occurrence was calculated at less than one in 10 million.

The Landmark 1993 Washington, D.C. Experiment

Perhaps the most famous study happened in the U.S. capital. In the summer of 1993, nearly 4,000 trained meditators arrived  in the “murder capital” with soaring violence. Their goal: reducing violent crime. Before the experiment began, predictions of a 25% crime drop were documented and filed with FBI, the police department and independent researchers. Transcendental Meditators attendance climbed; FBI Uniform Crime Reports tracked.

The result: a 23.3% violent crime plunge, D.C.’s sharpest two-month drop ever. Homicides? Near-zero peaks. The statistics of this happening by chance: p=2×10^{-9} that translates to a ‘1 in 500 million’ chance. The trend mirrored meditators precisely; weather, holidays, cops irrelevant. Even skeptical Washington DC Police Chief Fred Cooke, who initially dismissed the project, later conceded: “The results defied normal explanation”.

Meta-analyses: 50+ studies on cities/provinces/nations/internationals. Peer-reviewed in top journals (“Journal of Conflict Resolution”, etc.). Causal models, noise controls (14 alternatives), AIC-optimized, all affirm TM-Sidhi causality. No alternatives (politics, weather) hold.

Global assemblies (1983-1985): Three √1% gatherings tanked war deaths, boosted positivity. Research spans 1974-2017, first social science experiments yielding holistic shifts; crime/violence down, quality-of-life up.

Why Isn’t Everyone Talking About This?

Because it challenges everything we assume about change. We’re conditioned to think change comes from force, conflict, or control. But the Maharishi Effect suggests that coherence, not confrontation, can create transformation. In a world overwhelmed by noise, fear, and division, the idea that silence; collective, coherent, intentional silence, could reduce crime and calm entire cities is revolutionary. It doesn’t just change what we think is possible. It revolutionizes ‘who’ we think holds the power to create Peace. YOU hold Peace’s power, not the elites!

What It Means for Love Rising

Love Rising exists on the same principle: that a small, synchronized group in coherence can influence the collective field. Every morning, when you sit in stillness at sunrise, you’re not just connecting with yourself, you’re tuning into a living grid. You are part of the square root. You are part of the wave. That is the science behind the stillness. That is love in action.
